“If I didn't define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people's fantasies for me and eaten alive.”

— Audre Lorde

A bit about me.

I headed west to uncover the birthright of my ancestral genius. My story began in a small rural town in North Carolina. Throughout my earlier years, I was heavily influenced by the seasonal threat of hurricanes, the soft, yet stern crack in my grandmother’s voice, and the “uh hmms” and hands on hips of other Black, Southern women of my community. I began writing at the age of 5; writing was the first, and for a long time, the only medium through which I could hear my own voice. In recent years, I have brought my Black Southern-ness into the foreground of my chosen identity, recognizing it as a foundational pillar on which all of my art, work, and relationships rest. I am a mom to a vivacious 4 year old and have made a home in Oakland, California where I have lived for the past 13 years. I founded two businesses, Fenyx Consulting LLC and Oh Snap! Photo Experiences. My personal creative projects are focused on the spiritual liberation and ancestral healing of people of the African Diaspora. Professionally, I support individuals, organizations, and businesses in cultivating, thoughtful, inclusive landscapes at the intersection of equity and belonging, professional development, and emotional intelligence.
